Quantitative epidemiology and zoonotic disease risk
I take on independent scientific consultancy for international NGOs, government agencies and the vaccine industry. I am a disease ecologist and spatial epidemiologist with a clinical background in infectious diseases, so I can work across field ecology, clinical medicine and statistical modelling in one project.
Services
I am available for short expert assignments and for longer collaborations in these areas:
- Disease modelling. Spatial and mathematical models of pathogen spillover risk and transmission.
- Study and trial design. Technical guidance on One Health trial design, transmissible vaccine frameworks and the evaluation of public health interventions.
- Data synthesis and analysis. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of ecological and epidemiological data, such as host–pathogen sampling records.
- Public health policy. Evidence-based frameworks for emerging zoonoses and for monitoring antimicrobial resistance.
- Training. Workshops on spatial analysis in R, rodent-borne disease ecology and epidemiological monitoring.
For the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, I developed the curriculum and content of an e-learning module on the environmental determinants of communicable diseases, to support a One Health approach across the European Union.
My analyses are built in R and run on high-performance computing when the work needs it. Examples of the methods are on the research pages, and the code for most of them is public.
